Maynard Jackson scrapbooks, 1969-1970.

The collection consists of scrapbooks of clippings pertaining to the 1969 mayoral and vice-mayoral races in Atlanta, Georgia. The clippings document the campaigns and victories of Sam Massell as mayor and Maynard Jackson as vice-mayor as well as the racial and cultural issues raised when Atlanta elected its first Jewish mayor and first Black vice-mayor. The collection also contains some campaign material for Maynard Jackson and printed material (1970) on the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. (March 23, 1938 – June 23, 2003) was an American politician and attorney from Georgia. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected in 1973 at the age of 35 as the first black mayor of Atlanta, Georgia.
